Duct tape and gaffer tape are not synonyms. Duct tape is mainly intended for repair, fixing and reinforcement; gaffer tape is designed for staging, events and production work, where cleaner removal and a less reflective finish may matter. A water-resistant film or adhesive does not mean that every tape is permanently waterproof.
