Truck Panels & Equipment

Complete solutions for trucks and trailers: panels & identifiers (ECE 70.01, speed limit discs, overhanging load, exceptional/specific transport, French blind-spot); ECE 104 reflective markings (class C, 50 mm); ADR for trucks (300×300 hazard labels, orange plates, frames/holders). Electrical system (EBS/ABS 24 V) with 15-pin cables/adapters and electrical coils, and pneumatic system with trailer brake hoses and air coils. Filter by regulation, format and application. Note: non-vehicle industrial tapes sit under the general marking category.

FAQ Truck Panels & Equipment

What does ECE 70.01 require and which panels should I use?

ECE 70.01 regulates the use of retro-reflective panels for heavy vehicles. Panels for the tractor unit are shorter (about 565 x 130 mm), while those for trailers are taller (565 x 195 mm or 1130 x 130 mm). Self-adhesive PVC models are recommended for smooth surfaces; panels with aluminum backing provide greater rigidity and durability. Both use class 3 reflective films and must be installed according to ministerial specifications.

What is the difference between ECE 70.01 and ECE 104 markings?

ECE 70.01 covers retro-reflective red/yellow striped panels to be applied to the rear of tractor units and trailers. ECE 104 refers to 50 mm adhesive reflective tapes used to outline vehicle profiles: available in yellow, red or white and applied on the sides and rear to improve night-time visibility.

When are speed limit discs and oversize load panels mandatory?

Speed limit discs with 200 mm diameter are mandatory on industrial vehicles and indicate the maximum permitted speed; they must be applied in pairs on the rear. Oversize load panels, 50 x 50 cm, are mandatory when the load protrudes more than 30 percent of the vehicle length. Both must be retro-reflective and mounted on a clean, dry surface.

What is “exceptional transport” and which signs are required?

Exceptional transport concerns loads exceeding ordinary dimensions or weights. In such cases, “exceptional transport” panels with approved reflective film are required, available in sizes such as 600 x 150 mm or 1200 x 150 mm. Their installation is regulated by the Ministerial Decree 30/01/1985 and subsequent updates.

Which ADR labels are needed on heavy vehicles and how do I choose the class?

For the transport of dangerous goods, square labels of about 300 x 300 mm identifying the hazard class (gases, flammable liquids, infectious substances, etc.) are required, together with orange panels of about 400 x 300 mm with UN and Kemler numbers. It is important to check the class and UN number of the goods to select the correct combination of labels and panels.

What is the difference between EBS/ABS cables and air coils?

Spiral EBS or ABS cables are 24 V electrical connectors linking the tractor unit to the trailer and transmitting electronic braking system signals; they can be 7- or 15-pin and comply with ISO standards. Air coils are flexible hoses for compressed air in pneumatic brakes. Do not confuse the two systems: one is electrical, the other pneumatic.

Are ECE 104 reflective tapes mandatory on light vehicles?

ECE 104 tapes are mandatory on commercial vehicles over 7.5 tonnes GVW and on trailers over 3.5 tonnes. On light vehicles and vans they are optional but recommended to increase visibility. The 50 mm tapes should be applied in yellow or white on the sides and red on the rear.

What are “Blind Spot FR” panels?

“Blind spot” panels are mandatory in France for trucks and buses over 3.5 tonnes. They warn motorcyclists and pedestrians about the vehicle’s blind spots. They are available as adhesive or rigid panels and must be positioned according to French regulations; vehicles regularly circulating in France are advised to install them.

Where can I find non-vehicle-approved reflective tapes?

Industrial reflective tapes not approved for use on vehicles are available in another section of the site dedicated to general marking. They are ideal for packaging, warehouses or construction sites, but do not meet ECE requirements for road circulation.
