How to choose insulation for construction

There is no single material suitable for every application. The choice starts with the area of the building to be insulated and the required function.

  • Floors: resilient materials and underlays can help reduce impact sound and, depending on the product, provide thermal insulation as well.
  • Walls: mineral wool, insulation panels and materials for external insulation or lining-wall systems must be selected according to the planned construction solution.
  • Ceilings and lofts: available thickness, existing structure, ventilation and room use affect material selection.

Thermal conductivity values, density, mechanical resistance, fire behaviour and acoustic performance are not interchangeable between different products: always compare the technical data declared for the specific application.
