Ultra High Molecular Weight Poly-Ethylene (UHMWPE) is a specialized, non-fluid polymer, processed with techniques similar to those used for metals; it has an atomic mass of 3–6 MDa. Spun at 5% in naphthalene or decalin, it produces a fiber called Dyneema with a crystallinity of 85% and a density of 0.97 g/cm3. This "super-fiber" is used for special applications such as bulletproof clothing, sails, and ropes; it is 2 times stronger than Kevlar and 15 times stronger than steel of equal weight. It represents the lightest and strongest material on the market. Although it is a linear polymer, its degree of crystallinity is not high (45–60%), and can even be lower than LDPE (50–60%). This is because UHMWPE in a fluid state is extremely viscous, limiting its ability to arrange itself in an orderly way, and therefore its crystallinity. It also presents photosensitivity, which must be considered for material storage.
Cut-resistant polyethylene fiber allows you to go further. It is used in a wide range of garments, accessories, and devices to make them safer and resistant to cuts. It is lightweight, durable, and incredibly strong. Best known for its use in ballistics and in cut-resistant vests as bulletproof.
It is also used on ski slopes, in winding mountain trails, treacherous desert terrain, and even in space.
Fabric is not waterproof and not printable.
