PTFE tube for Bowden/filament guide – smooth feeding and stability for reliable printing
Made from industrial-grade PTFE (Teflon®), this tube is designed to optimise filament feeding in 3D printers with a Bowden system, or as a filament guide on direct-drive machines. The very smooth inner wall reduces friction, limits drag on bends and helps prevent jams, grinding and under-extrusion, especially with delicate materials (e.g. TPU, PLA).
Key points
- Low friction: very smooth inner surfaces for a more regular, consistent filament flow.
- Thermal stability: indicative range -60 °C / +260 °C, ideal near the hotend.
- Dimensional accuracy: tight tolerances and good stiffness to reduce ovalisation and crushing on bends.
- Wide compatibility: suitable as a guide for 1.75 mm filament (see size choice below); check the outer diameter required by your system's push-fit connectors.
- Professional quality: certifiable material; technical data sheet attached for traceability and PTFE properties.
Available sizes – 5 m rolls
- 2 × 4 mm (ID × OD) – recommended as a Bowden tube for 1.75 mm filament. 4 mm OD: compatible with common PC4 fittings (check the type on your extruder/hotend).
- 4 × 6 mm (ID × OD) – for systems/fittings requiring a 6 mm OD (e.g. PC6) or as a protective/routing sleeve.
Supply: minimum order 5 m; if you buy multiples you receive one continuous length (e.g. 10 m = a single piece), useful for long runs without joins.
Installation tips
- Clean 90° cut with a sharp blade; avoid burrs on the cut end.
- Bend radius: use wide curves to keep feeding resistance low.
- Fitting compatibility: check whether your machine uses PC4 (4 mm OD) or PC6 (6 mm OD).
Documentation
- PTFE technical data sheet and certifications available on request for professional use.
Note: performance depends on tolerances, filament path and mounting conditions. For critical applications, refer to the technical data sheet and check compatibility with your printer's hardware.
Frequently asked questions
- Which size for 1.75 mm filament? 2×4 mm (4 mm OD) is the standard Bowden choice, compatible with PC4 fittings.
- Can I use 4×6 mm? Yes, if your system requires a 6 mm OD (PC6 fittings) or you want a stiffer sleeve.
- Does it withstand hotend heat? PTFE withstands up to approx. 260 °C; avoid direct contact with the nozzle. With an all-metal hotend, it stays in use as a filament guide.
- How do I cut the tube? Cut at 90° with a sharp blade, leaving no burrs. Use wide curves to reduce friction.
- Do 10/15 m orders arrive in one piece? Yes, they are supplied as a continuous length (multiples of 5 m without joins).
