Clear Tent Repair Tape, Waterproof, 8 cm x 5 m – Self-Adhesive Tent Patch

  • Repairs tears and holes in your tent – sticks over the tear, even at the campsite, with no needle, thread or glue.
  • Almost invisible – clear, smooth film about 0.2 mm thin: once pressed down, the colour of the fabric shows through.
  • Waterproof – seals the repaired spot and keeps the rain out.
  • Strong adhesive that keeps getting stronger – the bond builds up in the hours after application and peaks after 24 hours.
  • 8 cm x 5 m roll with backing paper – cut it with scissors to any shape: enough for many repairs.
  • For PVC, polyester, coated nylon and canvas – camping and trekking tents, caravan and motorhome awnings and porches.

Clear tent repair tape – 8 cm x 5 m

A torn tent doesn't have to be thrown away

A peg that slips, a branch, a zip pulled too hard: it only takes a moment to end up with a cut in the fabric, maybe the night before it rains. With this tape the repair is done on the spot in a few minutes. Cut a piece a little larger than the tear, peel off the paper, press it onto the clean fabric and the hole is closed. No needle and thread, no glue, no need to take the tent down.

What it is

It is a clear PET film about 0.2 mm thin, with a strong adhesive on one side protected by white backing paper. It is smooth and flexible: it follows the fabric and, once pressed down, is barely visible. It is waterproof and made to stay outdoors, in sun and rain. The adhesive keeps bonding in the hours after application, so the repair gets stronger over time.

How to repair your tent

Clean the area around the tear of dust, soil and grease and let it dry well: this is the step that makes the difference. Cut the tape so it overlaps the tear by at least two or three centimetres on each side and round off the corners with scissors so they don't lift. Peel off the paper without touching the adhesive with your fingers, lay the tape down without stretching it and press firmly from the centre outwards to push out the air. If the tear is large or in a spot under strain, put a piece on the other side of the fabric too. Wait 24 hours before getting the repair wet or tensioning the fabric. In cold weather the adhesive grips less: warm the fabric and the tape with a hairdryer before applying.

Which tents it works on, and which not

It is designed for PVC-coated fabrics and also works well on coated polyester and nylon, vinyl and canvas: camping and trekking tents, caravan and motorhome awnings and porches, tarps and covers. For sun awnings, gazebos and parasols there is the 10 cm clear awning repair tape. It does not stick to silicone-treated fabrics, which you can recognise because they are very smooth and slippery, and it should not be applied to wet, dirty or greasy fabric. Where the fabric is under a lot of tension, such as at guy-rope attachment points, it is better to re-sew and use the tape to seal.

Frequently asked questions

Is it visible? It is a clear, smooth film: on almost all fabrics it is barely noticeable, especially on light ones. In direct light it can give a slight glossy reflection.

Does it hold in the rain? Yes, if it has been applied to clean, dry fabric and pressed down well. That is why it is best to repair before leaving or on a dry day and let it rest for 24 hours.

Can it be removed? Once stuck, the bond increases over time: peeling it off may damage the fabric. It is meant to stay.

Can it be cut? Yes, with scissors, to any shape you need. Rounding the corners helps stop it lifting.

How much tape do I need? The roll is 8 centimetres wide and 5 metres long: for a 10 cm cut, a piece of about 15 cm is enough.

What is in the box? One roll of clear repair tape, 8 cm x 5 m.

Is the tent's mosquito net torn too? For nets there is the mesh patch tape repair kit in fibreglass fabric. More tapes in the Repair & Sealing Tapes category.

Need to repair a greenhouse cover? For polythene film there is the clear greenhouse repair tape 10 cm x 20 m.
