Clear Greenhouse Repair Tape 10 cm x 20 m – Polythene Tape for Greenhouse and Polytunnel Film, UV Resistant
- Repairs the greenhouse film without replacing it – sticks over the tear, hole or cut, even with the greenhouse standing: no glue, stitching or patches needed.
- Polythene, like the film itself – soft, clear film that follows the folds of the cover and lets the light through.
- Waterproof and UV resistant – keeps out water and wind and is made to stay outdoors, in the sun and the rain.
- 10 cm wide – covers long tears with a margin on both sides; for large holes, lay several strips side by side.
- 20 metre roll – enough for many repairs and for sealing joins and overlaps between sheets; cut it with scissors.
- For garden greenhouses, polytunnels and plastic sheeting – smooth or mesh-reinforced polythene covers, polytunnels, balcony mini greenhouses, cold frames, tarps and covers.
Clear greenhouse repair tape – 10 cm x 20 m
How to repair a torn greenhouse cover
A gust of wind, hail, a branch or a few summers of sun: the greenhouse film tears or gets a hole, and water, cold and wind come in through the gap. Before buying a new cover for the greenhouse, which costs money and has to be fitted all over again, the tear can be closed with this tape in a few minutes, even with the greenhouse standing: clean the spot, cut a piece longer than the tear and press it onto the film. The greenhouse is closed again and the plants stay sheltered.
Why polythene and why 10 cm wide
The tape is a clear polythene film, the same material as greenhouse covers, with a strong adhesive on one side. That is why it bonds well to the cover, stays soft, follows the folds without stiffening the film and lets the light through. It is not a fabric tape and not packing tape: it is made to stay outdoors, in the sun and the rain. The 10 cm width suits the typical tears in greenhouse film, which are long and narrow: the tape covers the damage with a few centimetres of margin on each side, and that margin is what holds it in place. The 20 metre roll is enough for many repairs and also for sealing the joins between one sheet and the next.
How to apply it
Choose a dry day. Clean the film around the tear with a damp cloth, remove soil, dust and condensation and let it dry thoroughly: this is the step that makes the difference. Cut the tape so that it overlaps the tear by at least 5 cm on each side and round off the corners with scissors so they do not lift. Lay the tape on the taut film without stretching it: if you stretch it, it shrinks back afterwards and the edges lift. Press firmly from the centre outwards to push out the air. For long tears or where the film is under tension, apply a piece on the inside of the greenhouse as well, one on each side. In the cold the adhesive grips less: warm the film and the tape with a hair dryer before applying it.
Which greenhouses and covers it works on
It works on polythene covers, clear or coloured, smooth or reinforced with mesh: vegetable polytunnels, garden greenhouses with green or clear covers, balcony mini greenhouses, cold frames and low tunnels, plastic covers and polythene tarps for log stores, trailers and tools. It is also good for repairing the bubble wrap used to insulate greenhouses in winter. It does not stick to wet, dirty or greasy film or to silicone-coated surfaces. For multiwall polycarbonate sheets there are dedicated tapes, dust-filtering and sealing.
Frequently asked questions
Is it visible? It is clear: on transparent film it is barely noticeable, on green or coloured covers it shows as a glossy strip.
Does it withstand sun and rain? Yes, it is waterproof, UV resistant and made to stay outdoors. Check the repairs at the start of the season: if a corner has lifted, press it down again or add a piece on top.
Should it go outside or inside the greenhouse? Usually outside is enough. For long tears or where the film is under tension, it is better to apply it on both sides, one over the other.
Does it work on mesh-reinforced covers? Yes: press the tape well onto the weave, from the centre outwards, so the adhesive gets between the threads.
Can it be removed? Once applied it holds more and more over time: it is meant to stay. Peeling it off can damage an old cover.
How much tape do I need? The roll is 10 centimetres wide and 20 metres long: for a 30 cm tear a piece of about 40 cm is enough, so one roll covers many repairs.
What's in the box? One roll of clear polythene tape, 10 cm x 20 m.
Does your greenhouse have multiwall polycarbonate sheets? To close the flutes of the sheets there are the dust-filtering tape, the micro-perforated ventilated aluminium tape and the solid aluminium sealing tape.
Need to repair an awning or a camping tent? There is the 10 cm clear awning repair tape and the 8 cm clear tent repair tape. More tapes in the Repair & Sealing Tapes category.
