This heat wrap for exhaust manifolds and pipes, also called exhaust wrap or header wrap, is wound around the exhaust pipes of cars and motorcycles and reduces the heat that the manifold radiates outwards. The roll is 25 mm wide and 5 metres long, about 1.5 mm thick, and withstands up to 2000 °F (about 1,090 °C).
Under the bonnet the exhaust manifold is the hottest part of the engine: wrapping it reduces the heat reaching cables, rubber hoses and the other nearby components. On motorcycles, where the exhaust runs next to the rider's and passenger's legs, the wrap protects from the heat of the pipe. It also gives the exhaust a neat look, very popular on café racers, scramblers and custom bikes.
It is available in black, grey and titanium. Black blends in with the mechanical parts, light grey and titanium give the classic look of customised bikes. You choose the colour from the menu on the product page: size and price are the same.
One 25 mm x 5 m roll and 4 stainless steel cable ties of 4.6 x 300 mm to secure the ends of the wrap. No glue is needed.
With the engine cold, start at one end of the pipe and wind the wrap in a spiral, keeping it taut and overlapping each turn on the previous one, until the desired section is covered. At the beginning and at the end the wrap is secured with a cable tie; the excess is cut with scissors.
It depends on the diameter of the pipes and on how much the wrap is overlapped. As a guide, overlapping each turn by about one third, a 5-metre roll covers about 50 cm of pipe with a 5 cm diameter. A multi-pipe manifold or a complete exhaust usually needs more rolls.
It is a universal model: it suits any vehicle with an internal combustion engine and an exhaust manifold – cars, motorcycles, quads and karts – on the manifold, on the downpipe and on exhaust sections close to other components.
